Project Description

Summary:  View help for Summary This dataset contains data on schools and school districts within the United States from 2000 through 2018. Key variables include district-level enrollment by race and ethnicity; numbers of teachers and counselors; teacher-student ratios; counts of public, private, and charter schools within districts; and expenditures and revenue, including per-pupil revenue.

Methodology

Data Source:  View help for Data Source
  • School district fiscal and nonfiscal data, and counts of public, charter, and magnet schools from 2000-2018, come from the U. S. Department of Education’s Common Core of Data (CCD).
  • Private school counts come from the Private School Universe Survey (PSS).
  • School district boundary shapefiles from the National Center for Education Statistics were used to assign schools to a school district.
