Project Description

Summary:  View help for Summary This project sought to provide an alternative population-level measurement of homeownership by gender, relying on individuals rather than households as the unit of analysis. Rather than start with household surveys, we examined municipal tax assessor records of homeownership, coding their gender using a name-recognition algorithm. The project found considerable differences between conventional measures that rely on surveys and our measure relying on tax administrative data.
