The dataset has been constructed from the website of Herbert Stoyan, and contains records of the European nobles. We use this dataset to study the marriage patterns of the British and German nobility from the 1500s to the 1800s and document the differences in institutions between the two countries. In particular, we analyze the evolution of the degree of homogamy and exogamy in the marriage market of nobles and commoners.
